The National Rifle Association.
The 2007 NRA nominees are selected by the Nominating Committee and/or by petition of the membership.
The Board consists of 76 Directors. The bylaws require that one-third of the terms of offices of 75 NRA directors shall expire at each Annual Meeting of Members. One Director will be elected for a one-year term at each Annual Meeting of Members.
Such Director shall be selected from only those candidates who were not elected by mail ballot and those write-in candidates who received two hundred and fifty (250) or more write-in-votes on said mail ballot but were not elected by the mail ballot.
The 2007 election will fill the 25 three-year terms that expire in 2010 and 1 one-year term that expires in 2008. The 25 Candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to three-year terms and the 1 Nominee receiving the next highest number of votes will be elected to a one-year term.
Nominating Committee. The Committee, elected by the Board of Directors, includes six Directors and three Lifetime members who are not Directors.
Nomination by the Nomination Committee:
The Nomination Committee received 177 nominations, 64 were Life members and therefore eligible for consideration. The Nomination committee gave consideration to 64 names recommended by the membership, a total of 30 nominees were selected from that 64.
Nomination by Petition of Membership:
A total of 7 persons were nominated by petition. (One of the 7 had already been nominated by the Nominating Committee.) Each petition sponsored by an NRA member or member organization required the signatures of not less than 250 voting members.
NRA Voting Membership: As defined in the bylaws, "Lifetime members and annual members with five or more consecutive years of membership, as shown in the membership records, who have attained the age of 18 years and who are citizens of the United States of America shall be entitled to vote. Each such member shall be entitled to cast a vote for not more than one person for each vacancy on the board of Directors to be filled by the membership at any election of Directors..."
As a voting NRA member I take this seriously, I look at both of our major political parties and see the insidious take over from within that has occurred in their ranks and try my best to prevent that from happening within the NRA.
The 2007 ballot has 36 names which have been nominated, of those 36 names I have to choose not more than 26 from the nominee list. Some are up for re-election, which make the choices easy, the rest are amongst that one-third of new nominees.
I can only hope that the Nominating Committee selections and those members selected by petition measure up to the qualities required to protect, defend and promote the Second Amendment protections we all enjoy.
I hope God has granted me the judgment to make the right ballot decisions to ensure we get the membership we need to protect those long fought freedoms and that those decisions serve us well.
This is about more than just the Second Amendment, Guns, Hunting, Shooting or the Right to Bear Arms, it's about defending the entire Constitution.
Anyone wishing to join the NRA can sign up here, new members are always welcome.
